Avoiding Bandwidth Limit Disasters When Choosing a Web Hosting Service

Bandwidth limit is certainly one of the most important considerations when choosing a web host, and can lead to serious complications unless you know how to avoid them. And determining whether or not a potential web hosting service or plan is right for your budget and potential bandwidth usage is critical.
To start with, as a rule, 3-5 GB a month should be sufficient for your website, unless you are an ebay, or a Frank Kern, Armand Morin, John Delavera, Marlon Sanders, etc; these are internet marketing gurus with gigantic internet presences, and a gazillion visitors a day, gobbling up tons of bandwidth.
You should be aware of web hosting services touting "unlimited bandwidth". Because often, in reality, it is not in fact unlimited. And should you be guilty of excessive bandwidth use, in excess of your actual bandwidth allotment, you may get the bad news that was buried deep in the hosting company's terms of service statements.
Bad news which you too often will first discover upon receipt of an exorbitant "bandwidth exceeded" bill for having "exceeded" your "unlimited bandwidth." So be sure to look for all the details about how much bandwidth usage your web hosting site actually allows you. Often you will discover that their actual definition of "unlimited" is actually limited in one way or another...
Additionally, most new web sites that are not gigantic software archives or the like, will usually incur less than 3 GB of bandwidth usage per month. But as your traffic starts to build over time, and as you become more well-known--and gradually, more widely linked--your bandwidth use will usually grow. So be sure you know your host company's policy and charges for any overages.
Finally, should you attempt a product or service launch, with a web site hosted by a service not set up to handle a sudden surge of visitors to your website, a would-be successful launch can turn into a disaster should your website crash under the crush of visitors. So be sure to verify whether or not your web hosting service will be up to a sudden tidal wave of visitors to your site before you schedule your launch.
As you can see, bandwidth limit and bandwidth usage should be an important consideration in selecting a web host for your internet business.
